Quilts For Broncos Monday April 23 at 10:30 to 4
Help show your support for Humboldt!
So many Canadians and people around the world are showing their support for the people of Humbolt, Saskatchewan following the tragic bus-truck collision on Friday, April 6, 2018. Sixteen of the 29 players and staff on the bus were killed. Canadians may be wearing hockey jerseys or leaving a hockey stick on the front step in memory. Those close enough are laying flowers at a memorial at the site of the crash.
Local quilters from Humbolt and Melfort are planning to make quilts for the 29 players and staff that were on the bus or their families.
Others quilters are joining the effort. The Saskatoon Modern Quilt Guild is supporting Humboldt’s local quilt store Haus of Stitches and the Prairie Patchwork Quilt Guild in making ‘Quilts for Broncos’.
The Guild has asked other quilters to help, too, by making quilts for those involved in this horrible event. According to the Guild’s website, “The call for quilts comes for the others impacted by the events. Including: Billet families, First Responders, EMT, RCMP, Fire, Broncos Staff and Board members, and many others impacted in the communities of Humboldt and Tisdale.”
Sew With Vision is pleased to be able to help to make quilt blocks for this project! We’ll be sewing them on Monday, April 23 from 10:30 – 4:00 at the store on Parkland Drive. Bonnie and Deb have set aside fabric in the team’s colours that can be used. If you have fabrics at home you want to use in the team colours: black, white, gold, dark green and green, bring them along. Lori will be on hand to help you make or design quilt blocks that measure 12.5” x 12.5”.
If you can’t join us on April 23rd, but still want to help you can make your quilt blocks or quilt tops at home. Bring your contribution to the store by Monday, April 23 and we’ll make sure it is mailed out to meet the May 18th deadline.
